Summer Reading Program

Every summer, we turn the library into the most exciting place in town. We bring in amazing local presenters who wow, teach, and inspire kids. We create themed storytimes and events and print colorful reading logs that every child is proud to fill out. We kick things off with a Summer Reading Kickoff Party to get everyone signed up and often welcome over five hundred people. At the end of Summer Reading, we celebrate everyone’s success and hard work with another large-scale event. Of course, we cannot forget the prizes because nothing gets kids reading like the thrill of earning something special. Beyond the fun, summer reading plays a vital role in preventing the “summer slide,” the learning loss that can happen when children are out of school for the summer. Participating in reading activities helps kids maintain and even grow their reading skills so they are ready to start the next school year strong.
